NSW Mathematics Stage 2

NSW Stage 2 Mathematics supports students in Years 3 and 4 as they develop a stronger foundation in mathematical understanding and problem-solving. At this stage, students extend their knowledge of numbers, operations and patterns while learning to apply mathematical strategies in meaningful and practical contexts. NSW Stage 2 Mathematics focuses on building fluency, accuracy and confidence, encouraging students to explain their thinking and use mathematical language correctly.

Through NSW Stage 2 Mathematics, students explore key areas including Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. They work with larger numbers, multiplication and division, fractions, and measurement concepts such as length, area, mass and time. NSW Stage 2 Mathematics also helps students develop reasoning skills and real-world connections, preparing them for more complex mathematical learning in Stage 3.
